I am an avid fisherman and President of a fishing club called TMTanglers. We primarily bass fish but have been known to chase anything that swims. Fishing is about much more than fishing to me, but the talent to explain how and why is beyond me. That fraction of a second between the time you feel a strike and the time you realize what you have hooked provides an unmatched moment of hope. It captures my imagination like nothing else. It is like crack to me.

In a “what the heck” moment, I got an article published on BassFan.com.

Where do you fish in the Birmingham – north central Ala area? I am a newbie looking for places I can bank fish or use a jon boat and trolling motor. Nice site! And thanks for any insights!

Adam, someone else was just asking that question the other day. The places available that rent boats are: Lake Purdy and Oak Mountain State Park. You can catch fish at both locations. Another great way to fish is to float the Sipsey and Locust Fork Rivers. Those can be fished out of a canoe, kayak, or jon boat.
If you are interested in more advanced fishing I suggest hooking up with a fishing club. Many fishing clubs are continually looking for “non-boaters” to fish their tournaments with boaters. My fishing club is called TMTanglers.
Incidentally, the message board at my fishing club at http://tmtanglers.com/forum is a great place to get advice from more experienced anglers who know the area. We are always happy to help people trying to get into the sport.
I hope that helps!
